I was about six years old and a bit feisty. Some things never change. My mama was fussing at me—so I decided to run away. Mama saw me packing a suitcase and asked what I was doing. “I’m running away,” I told her. She informed me that it was probably for the best since she was so mean and all. She only had one condition I was not allowed to take anything that she or my daddy had bought for me. We went through my Hello Kitty suitcase together and removed all such items—which left me with nothing, not even a suitcase.
Mama cleared her throat and said, “Those shoes . . . we bought them . . . and the socks . . . and the shorts . . . and the shirt . . . oh, and those panties.” Butt-naked, with my hand on my hip, I grabbed the lip gloss I had purchased with my own money and marched right out the door. I hopped on my bike, which was a gift from my godparents, and rode down the street to our music minister and his wife’s house. I told them how my mama had taken away everything I owned but my lip gloss and my bicycle. I asked them if I could live with them. --Emily Bray, 38 years old, Memory Project Participant
Little Cabin on the Trail inspires folks to assign great value to their seemingly insignificant memories and encourages them to use those memories to become their family storytellers. Personal stories give everyone permission to pause and consider that there really is a bigger picture, an eternal picture, where past, present, and future generations are linked, not only through their blood, but through their stories. Little Cabin on the Trail will certainly entertain readers with its view into one very ordinary family's life; but more importantly, it will help them to realize that they, too, have stories just begging to be told--better stories . . . because they are theirs.

This was a wonderful read from beginning to end. I picked it up at 5AM and by 8:30 it was done as 2 plus feet of snow is falling outside. Warm memories, funny stories and interesting people--what more could you ask for. The reality of life composes stories that have no need to embellish. You'll be treated to many of them here in this book. Enjoy them over and over.

Little Cabin on the Trail eBook Denise Voccola Reviews

Just in time. Needed a temporary escape from a hectic day and this is what came in the mail. I am not a big reader and have never belonged to a book club, but I happen to know the author,so I opened this book. Like the magic cabin, this book magically took me away. I felt like I was there, meeting each character with the author. I enjoyed every story, every memory, and every page .Thanks Denise Mahr Voccola for sharing The Little Cabin on the Trail.
This book is incredibly compelling. I read little bits over time, not wanting the book to end. I am secretly hoping for a sequel.
Within these pages you remember what it feels like to dream, to hope, to feel alive and present. If nothing else, this book of treasures
will ignite a burning desire to knowingly fully experience every moment of your life and to keep precious, those moments, in your heart.
This sweet little book has brought me to my knees. I sat down to start reading it, and wound up reading it straight through in one sitting. Author Denise Voccola's voice shines. She is engaging, humorous, wise, candid, vulnerable, and uplifting. Her stories about her "ordinary" family and their "ordinary" life will leave you inspired and challenged to appreciate the tender moments God gives you with your own family, and to seek opportunities to create lasting memories—not by striving to do more, or be more, but to rest in God's all-sufficiency and His divine appointments. Buy this book—you won't be disappointed.
I loved the heartwarming stories told by Denise about her family, their heartbreak and adventures. It was a wonderful reminder to slow down in life, take the time to embrace every situation, the good and even the not so great times. You never know, it may become a wonderful story you will tell for years to come, or it may become something that allows us to serve someone else. I must write more of my own stories down like these, so I'll not forget all the wonderful experiences God has placed in this life for us. Thanks to Denise for this journey into your lives through stories told as well as the reminder to never take for granted, time spent with not only family but sometimes a beautiful soul that may wander into our lives unexpectedly.
Denise' s book stirred up many of my own memories of childhood and of raising our children. Her story-telling brought many smiles and tears as I read. Being familiar with the Virginia Creeper Trail, I can now anticipate riding it again, and hopefully seeing her "little cabin." Her book makes me want to write my own! I appreciate her openness in sharing how her faith in God has helped her to get through the devastating loss her family faced. This book enriched my life and blessed my heart, and I will read it again.
This book is incredibly difficult for me to rate. There were some very heartwarming stories in here. However, it became very difficult to continue reading towards the end. All of the fragmented stories became too much for me. I think this book was simply not my cup of tea. You have to look beyond the lack of fluidity to really enjoy it, I would say. Lots of jumping around. Still, as I said, some stories were incredibly touching and literally brought me to tears. It's just not the book that I intended it to be. If you like stories that jump around, this book is for you, though.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The stories were heartwarming, funny, and sometimes sad. Denise Voccola shares her memories and those of others with the unique artistry of a great storyteller. Her stories transported me to the little magical cabin and made me want to hear more. Sharing her faith and struggles in the face of tragedy, the author will inspire you to make special memories and enjoy your own family stories.
